TOPIC: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS FOR YOUR BUSINESS:
Reaping the Benefits of One’s Brain Power, Creativity, and Innovativeness Through the Procurement of, Protection of, and Exploitation of Intellectual Property Rights
Presented by Susan Dierenfeldt-Troy
Although it will distinguish the four types of intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets), the seminar will focus primarily on trademarks and copyrights since issues involving these two particular types of IP in particular are encountered by a wide range of small businesses. By the end of the seminar, the attendee will have a basic understanding of:
1) the differences between copyright and trademark protection;
2) the procedures for obtaining/securing copyright and trademark protection; and
3) licensing versus assignment of IP rights
In addition, the attendees will get some tips on steps to take to help prevent potentially costly allegations of trademark or copyright infringement against them or their businesses.
